China says the world's largest online population is rapidly getting larger.

The government said Tuesday that 485 million people in China were using the Internet at the end of June. That marks a 6.1 percent increase in just six months.

The report from the China Internet Network Information Center also said 195 million people in China are now using microblogging sites similar to Twitter. That is an increase of more than 200 percent since the end of last year.

The report said about 65 percent of China's Internet users – or 318 million people – are using mobile phones to surf the Web. That is an increase of almost 15 percent since the middle of 2010.
