US Stocks Open Lower Tuesday

U.S. stock indexes open lower on Tuesday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average is off more than one-half of one percent, while the S&P 500 index is down three-tenths of a percent. The NASDAQ is a tenth of a percent lower.

Stocks are down in afternoon trading in Europe.

London's Financial Times index is down less than one-tenth of one percent. The CAC-40 in Paris is down seven-tenths of one percent, while the DAX index in Frankfurt is off a tenth of a percent.

In Asia, Tokyo's Nikkei index gained almost one-half of a percent to close at 10,098.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng index rose one and one-quarter percent to end at 22,572.

Gold is trading at $1,612.35 an ounce, down slightly from Monday's record highs.

The dollar is trading lower against both the euro and yen.
