Afghan authorities say the bodies of two Germans who disappeared last month while hiking in the Hindu Kush mountains north of Kabul have been found.
Police chief of Parwan province, Sher Ahmad Maladani, said a rescue team found the bullet-riddled bodies late Monday in a remote area near the Salang Pass.
German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle had said his government was following up on indications the two had been abducted.
In other violence Monday, five civilians were killed after their vehicle hit a roadside bomb in northwestern Faryab province.
And NATO said a civilian employee of the U.S. Department of Defense died in eastern Afghanistan. No other details were immediately available.
