European Stocks Mixed in Midday Trading

European stock prices are lower in midday trading Tuesday.

London's Financial Times index is down over three-tenths of one percent. The CAC-40 in Paris is trading one percent lower, and the DAX index in Frankfurt is up just over one-quarter of one percent.

In New York, the S&P futures contract is down less than one point, indicating a lower opening.

Tokyo's Nikkei index gained nearly one percent to finish at 8,617.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng index was closed Monday.

Gold is trading at $1,809.31 an ounce.

The dollar is trading lower against other major currencies.
