Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says Tehran is talking to Russia about building another nuclear power reactor. Iran's only nuclear plant, Russian-built Bushehr nuclear power station, was launched earlier this year.
Mr. Ahmadinejad says Iran needs 20 times more energy than Bushehr supplies. He invited other countries to bid to build new power plants in Iran.
The U.N. Security Council has imposed four sets of sanctions on Tehran for its uranium-enrichment activities and lack of cooperation with international inspectors. Iran says its nuclear program is devoted only to the generation of energy.
Earlier, the Iranian leader told the Associated Press it is not too late for the United States to improve its troubled relationship with Iran.
Mr. Ahmadinejad said U.S. President Barack Obama never made good on his pledge to try to reopen dialogue with Iran. He says he still hoped for a face-to-face meeting between the two.
Iran is at odds with European governments and the Obama administration over the controversial role of its nuclear program. Mr. Ahmadinejad insists the program is for peaceful purposes.
