U.S. President Barack Obama is scheduled to meet with his Honduran counterpart, Porfirio Lobo, next month for bilateral talks at the White House.

Regional economic and security issues also will be discussed when the two leaders meet October 5, according to a White House statement issued Friday. Honduras's efforts to restore democratic and constitutional order are expected to be on the agenda as well.

President Lobo has been in office since January of last year. He was elected in late 2009 after the previous president, Manuel Zelaya, was ousted in a military-backed coup and replaced on an interim basis by Roberto Micheletti.

Mr. Zelaya was deposed after he allegedly tried to change the constitution to remain in power. The Organization of American States subsequently suspended Honduras, but has since readmitted the Central American nation.
