Russia's consumer rights protection service, Rospotrebnadzor, has banned the import of fresh meat products from U.S. based company Tyson, over fears of E. coli contamination.
The decison comes after Tyson recalled about about 60 tons of ground beef because a family in Ohio fell ill after eating meat that was contaminated with the bacteria.
The Russian consumer rights service has also asked Belarus and Kazakhstan to take similar precautionary steps to keep tainted meat out of stores.
E. coli symptoms include stomach cramps, diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. In extreme cases, it can cause kidney failure and death.
