Pakistani intelligence officials say a suspected U.S. drone strike has killed at least two militants in the North Waziristan tribal region near the Afghan border.
The officials said the drone fired missiles into a house Thursday near the town of Miranshah, in a stronghold of the Taliban- and al-Qaida-linked Haqqani network.
U.S. officials have never publicly acknowledged the use of drone strikes against Taliban and al-Qaida-linked militants in Pakistan's tribal areas, but privately they have confirmed their existence to various news outlets.
Pakistan has condemned the attacks as a violation of its sovereignty, but the strikes are believed to be carried out with the help of Pakistani intelligence.
The Haqqani network is known for carrying out many high-profile attacks on U.S.-led coalition forces fighting the Taliban insurgency in Afghanistan.
