The World Food Program appealed Friday for food aid for Cambodian flood victims, saying that with the price of rice of the rise, the poorest households face the prospect of not having enough to eat.

WFP Cambodia Country Director Jean-Pierre de Margerie said in a news release that initial reports indicate that 10 percent of Cambodia's rice crop has been destroyed.

The WFP said Cambodian Ministry of Agriculture figures released this week indicate a 12 percent month-on-month increase in the price of rice.

The United Nations agency said it is scaling up its response to reach up to 150,000 people, first with emergency food supplies and then in a recovery phase.
