A roadside bomb in the northeastern Afghan province of Laghman hit a civilian car Saturday, killing at least eight people, including a woman and a child.

A spokesman for the provincial governor said the explosion destroyed the vehicle.

Commander of NATO-led forces, General John Allen, joined Afghan President Hamid Karzai in condemning the incident in the Ali Angar district. Allen said “this is another example of the insurgency's absolute lack of respect for human life.”

In western Herat province, at least five people were wounded when a bomb attached to a bicycle went off.

NATO said one of its service members died following a bomb blast in southern Afghanistan. It provided no other information.
