South African police say at least 30 people were killed early Saturday when a mini bus and truck collided head-on near Harrismith in Free State province.

Officials say several children are among the victims. Authorities say seven people were taken to the hospital.

Initial reports indicate the taxi driver lost control and veered into the path of the truck. Police continue to investigate.
