Iraqi officials say a string of attacks in the capital, Baghdad, has killed at least 22 people.

The worst of the violence Thursday was a bombing in the city's mainly Shi'ite Karradah district, which killed nine people and wounded 24 others.

Officials said there were at least two other explosions in Baghdad, with attacks reported in other provinces.

Baghdad had seen weeks of relative calm accompanied by the easing of political tensions between Iraq's Shi'ite prime minister and senior members of a Sunni political bloc, before a car bombing Sunday killed at least 19 recruits outside a police academy.
