A judge in Oakland, California has charged a former nursing student with seven counts of murder in the shooting Monday at a Christian college.

One Goh quietly said “yes” Wednesday when the judge asked him if he understands the charges. Goh was also charged with three counts of attempted murder. He faces the death penalty if convicted.

Goh allegedly shot and killed seven people and wounded three others at Oikos University — a small religious school with a mainly Korean-American student body.

Police say he was targeting a school administrator who expelled him for behavior problems and classmates who allegedly laughed at his English language skills.

Police say the administrator was not there, but that Goh opened fire on a school secretary and students.
