British border officials have announced they will conduct a 24-hour strike the day before the London Olympics begin, threatening to complicate entry for thousands of overseas visitors headed for the Games.

The Public and Commercial Services Union announced its members will strike July 26 and then refuse to work any overtime through August 20, to protest job cuts and pay issues. The Olympics begin July 27 and run through August 12.

Government ministers have condemned their plans.

Additionally, the Aslef rail union said that about 450 of its members will walk out August 6 through 8 over a pension dispute, disrupting travel between Olympic venues.
