More than 200 police officers are patrolling the northern French city of Amiens, in an effort to keep the peace after rioting there earlier this week.

Police say the rioters burned cars and buildings, including a school and a youth center, in a troubled district of the city. Sixteen police officers were injured.

The violence was apparently triggered at a funeral Sunday for a young man killed in a road accident. Attendees were said to be irritated by police checking their identification.

In that neighborhood of the city, youth unemployment is as high as 60 percent, and tension between residents and police has been high.
