French officials say one person is dead after police carried out raids across France Saturday while investigating a grenade attack on a Jewish market outside Paris.

Police conducted the raids after DNA on the grenade led police to a suspect in the eastern city of Strasbourg. When confronted, police say the suspect opened fire on the officers, wounding several of them before he was shot and killed.

At least 10 other people were arrested in the raids, which took place in Paris, Cannes, Strasbourg, and elsewhere across France.

Police suspect the attack on the Jewish market — which slightly injured one person — might be the work of Muslim extremists. The attack triggered strong reactions in the Jewish community, after a series of anti-Semitic attacks in France in recent months.
