Five Afghan soldiers and three Afghan police officers have died in separate attacks in the country's south and east.
A government spokesman said the five troops died Thursday in eastern Laghman province when their convoy hit a land mine.
Another official announced that three policemen were killed in a suicide bomb attack in Kandahar.
There were no claims of responsibility, but similar attacks have been claimed by Taliban insurgents.
The French news agency reports a third attack — a roadside bomb — that killed 10 civilians Thursday as they headed for a wedding in Helmand province.
