The family of Mexican-American singing superstar Jenni Rivera says she has been killed in a small plane crash.

Authorities say the wreckage of the Learjet carrying Rivera and six other people was discovered outside the northern city of Monterrey Sunday, hours after taking off on a flight to Toluca, near Mexico City. She had given a concert in Monterrey the night before.

Transportation and Communications Minister Gerardo Ruiz Esparza told Mexican television there were no survivors in the crash. Esparza said the crash site is spread out over such a wide area that “there is nothing recognizable.” The cause of the crash is not immediately known.

The 43-year-old California-born Rivera — the mother of five children — combined nortena, banda and other musical styles to sell 15 million records. She was nominated three times for a Latin Grammy award and won several Billboard Latin Music Awards. She was also a popular personality on Spanish-speaking television, starring in a handful of reality shows.
