European Markets Lower at Midday

European stock markets were lower in midday trading Monday.

London’s Financial Times 100 index slipped slightly to 5,851. The CAC-40 in Paris lost six-tenths of a percent to 3,866. And the DAX in Frankfurt dipped slightly at 7,104.

The S&P futures contract was down two points, indicating a lower opening for U.S. markets.

In Asia, Tokyo’s Nikkei index fell 1.2 percent to close at 9,380.

Hong Kong markets were closed for the Dragon Boat Festival.

Gold was trading at $1,545.45 an ounce.

The U.S. dollar was lower against other major currencies.
