European Stocks Lower in Midday Trading

European stock prices are lower in midday trading Wednesday.

London's Financial Times index is down 1.1 percent. The CAC-40 in Paris is down one percent and the DAX index in Frankfurt is down nearly 1.4 percent.

In New York, the S&P futures contract is down six points, indicating a lower opening.

Tokyo's Nikkei index gained nearly one-tenth of one percent to finish at 9,449.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng index lost nearly one percent to finish the day's trading at 22,662.

Gold is trading at $1,533.84 an ounce.

The dollar is mixed in trading against other major currencies.
