Afghan officials say nine people have been killed in eastern Nangarhar province in a militant attack on a gathering for a wedding.

Provincial officials said the militants stormed a house Thursday where wedding party members had gathered in Dur Baba district. Reports say the groom, who was one of the victims, was a relative of the district chief of Dur Baba.

The Taliban and other militants in Afghanistan frequently target government officials as well as the army and police.
