Asian Markets Close Mostly Lower

Asian stock markets closed mostly lower Monday.

Tokyo's Nikkei index dropped seven-tenths of a percent to close at 9,448.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng index rose four-tenths percent to end at 22,508.

Markets closed lower in Shanghai, Taipei, Mumbai, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Jakarta, Wellington and Manila. Share prices were higher in Seoul, Sydney and Singapore.

The U.S. dollar was quoted at 80.84 yen, nearly unchanged from late Friday.

Gold was trading at $1,526.48 an ounce.
