Asian stock markets were mostly lower in trading Monday.

Tokyo's Nikkei index dropped seven-tenths of a percent to close at 9,448.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng index rose four-tenths percent to end at 22,508.

Elsewhere, share prices were higher in Sydney. Markets closed lower in Shanghai, Taipei, Wellington and Manila.

The dollar was selling at 80.38 yen in currency trading, up slightly from late Friday.
