Authorities in Papua New Guinea are questioning the son of acting Prime Minister Sam Abal in connection with the death of a woman whose body was found at Mr. Abal's home of in the capital of Port Moresby.

Police say Mr. Abal's son Teo was detained for questioning Wednesday. He was seen entering the compound with a female companion early Monday morning.

In a statement carried by local news outlets, Mr. Abal said “all family members living with me are immediate suspects” and pledged to cooperate with police in the murder investigation. The acting prime minister was not at home at the time of the crime.

The incident comes during a politically sensitive time for the small Pacific island nation. Mr. Abal recently took over while 75-year-old Prime Minister Michael Somare, Papua New Guinea's founding leader, recovers from heart surgery in Singapore.
