The union representing striking Air Canada sales and customer service agents said Wednesday it is determined to reach a contract agreement with the airline before the Canadian government forces employees back to work.
Labor Minister Lisa Raitt issued a warning Tuesday to the striking employees that she will introduce back to work legislation. The bill could be up for a vote by next week.
The strike, involving 3,800 employees, has created delays, but no flight cancellations. Air Canada has dispatched 1,700 managers to handle ticketing and check-in duties across the country. Customer calls have been diverted to the United States.
Air Canada is in contract discussions with other unions including the pilots, flight attendants and maintenance crews. Pensions are a major point of discussion.
