A top British school and London hotel were on a list of possible terrorist targets found on the body of a leading al-Qaida commander shot dead in Somalia.
Fazul Abdullah Mohammed was shot and killed by security forces at a checkpoint near Mogadishu last week. He is believed to have played a key role in the 1998 bombing attacks of the U.S. embassies in Nairobi and Dar-es-Salaam that caused mass casualties.
British security officials said that the Ritz hotel and Eton College were on the hit-list of bomb targets found on Fazul Mohammed's body.
Officials would not give any further details, but suggested that the attacks were not imminent.
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said at the time that Fazul Mohammed's death was a significant blow to al-Qaida.
The al-Qaida commander, who was known by many aliases, was carrying thousands of dollars in cash and multiple identity documents when he was killed.
