Japanese markets closed lower Friday, while the U.S. dollar is unchanged against the Japanese yen.

Tokyo's Nikkei index dropped more than one-half of one percent to finish at 9,351.

In currency trading, the dollar was selling at 80.63 yen.

The Taipei market finished the day's trading at 8,636, a loss of nearly one-quarter of one percent .
