Sri Lankan officials say three baby elephants were killed Saturday when they were hit by a passenger train.
Authorities say the three were killed in a forested area near Ambanpola, 150 kilometers north of the capital, Colombo.
A railway official said the death of the elephants was the worst train accident involving wildlife.
No passengers were hurt in the crash.
Authorities say three elephants were hit by a train two months ago in eastern Sri Lanka, killing two of the animals.
