Philippine President Benigno Aquino has decided not to allow the body of late dictator Ferdinand Marcos to be buried in a cemetery for national heroes in Manila.

The president's office said Saturday that a hero's burial was out of the question, but Mr. Aquino had yet to decide whether Mr. Marcos' body should be given full military honors. Mr. Marcos, who died in exile in Hawaii in 1989, was an army officer during World War Two.

His remains were brought to his northern Philippine hometown in Batac in Ilocos Norte in 1993.

Mr. Marcos was swept out of office in 1986 in a “People's Power” revolt that put President Aquino's mother, Corazon Aquino in power.
