Asian stock markets were mostly lower in trading Monday.

Tokyo's Nikkei index rose a fraction of a percent to close at 9,354.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng index lost four-tenths of a percent to end at 21,600.

Elsewhere, share prices were lower in Shanghai, Sydney, Wellington, Taipei and Manila.

The dollar was selling at 80.19 yen in currency trading, up more than one-tenth of a yen from late Friday.
