European Stocks Higher in Midday Trading

European stock prices are higher in midday trading Tuesday.

London's Financial Times index and the DAX index in Frankfurt are both up seven-tenths of a percent, while the CAC-40 in Paris is up one percent,

In New York, the S&P futures contract is up five points, indicating a higher opening.

Tokyo's Nikkei index gained 1.1 percent to finish at 9,460.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng index also rose nearly 1.2 percent to finish the day's trading at 21,851.

Gold is trading at $1,544.40 an ounce.

The dollar is trading lower against other major currencies.
