India police say they will soon charge 14 suspected Somali pirates found drifting off the country's western coast.

Officials say the Somalis were found on a fishing boat along with three Yemen nationals who are believed to be hostages of the suspected pirates.

The 17 were detained Sunday in Gujarat state's Junagarh district.

The French News Agency quotes the Junagarh police chief saying the Somalis and their captives would be charged with entering India without valid travel documents.

Indian officials have arrested more than 100 pirates in recent months, as pirates move farther away from operations along the Somali coast.

International forces began patrolling the Somali coast a few years ago, trying to stop the attacks that have brought Somali pirates hundreds of millions of dollars in ransom payments.
