The Red Cross Society of China is worried about reduced donations after a young woman claiming to be a manager at the charity boasted on the Internet about her extravagant lifestyle.

Chinese press reports Thursday quote from a statement by the society as denying any connection with 20-year-old Guo Meimei, who claimed on a microblog that she owns several luxury sports cars and dozens of designer handbags.

The microblog, filed this week in the name of “Guo Meimei Baby,” attracted widespread attention among Internet users, some of whom began to write that they would no longer donate money to the Red Cross.

The Red Cross noted there is no such organization as Red Cross Commerce, where the blogger claimed to be a general manager. It said it consistently opposes stunts to gain public attention with false information.
