Afghanistan is urging neighboring Pakistan to put an end to cross border attacks.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement Friday expressing its concern about the “continuing Pakistani artillery shelling in Afghan villages.”

The Afghan government says four children were killed late Thursday when artillery shells hit the Sarkano area of northeastern Kunar province, along Afghanistan's border with Pakistan.

The foreign ministry also says villages were shelled in the eastern province of Nangarhar.

There was no immediate comment from the Pakistani government.

Both countries have blamed each other for not doing enough to crack down on militants along the porous border.

Pakistan this month protested to Afghanistan following cross border attacks in which Afghan militants attacked villages in Pakistan's tribal region.
