European Union leaders are set to welcome Croatia as the 28th member of the bloc.

Officials say the group has agreed to complete negotiations with Zagreb on its accession to the EU.

Negotiations should be finished by the end of this month.

Croatia is on schedule to join the EU by July 2013.

Croatia started EU membership talks six years ago. It would be the second former Yugoslav nation to join the EU, following Slovenia.
