Japanese share prices ended higher Friday, while the dollar was lower against the yen.

Tokyo's Nikkei index gained nine-tenths of a percent , to close at 9,679.

In currency trading, the dollar was selling at 80.20 yen, down three-tenths of a yen from late Thursday.

Gold was selling at $1,522.60 an ounce.
