U.S. first lady Michelle Obama is on her way home after a week-long, two-nation visit to southern Africa.

Obama's plane left Botswana Sunday, a day after she finished up her trip with a safari in South Africa.

The first lady, accompanied by her daughters, mother, a niece and a nephew, saw an elephant at the Madikwe Game Reserve.

During her visit, Obama met with Botswana's President Ian Khama, and Nobel Peace Prize winners Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu.

The first lady also promoted youth leadership, the empowerment of women, and awareness of HIV and AIDS.

She is due to arrive back in Washington on Monday.
