A 5.3 magnitude earthquake jolted China's Nangqian County in northwest Yushu prefecture Sunday afternoon.

The U.S. Geological Center says the epicenter of the quake was 118 kilometers west of the town of Gyegu at a depth of 25 kilometers.

It was not immediately known if there were any casualties or damage in the area, largely inhabited by Tibetans.

Yushu was struck by a 7.1-magnitude earthquake last April that killed nearly 2,700 people.
