Japanese share prices ended lower Monday, while the dollar rose against the yen.

Tokyo's Nikkei index dropped 1.04 percent , to close at 9,578.

In currency trading, the dollar was selling at 80.71 yen, up three-tenths of a yen from late Friday.

The Taipei market fell four-tenths of a percent , to close at 8,500.
