Disaster officials say at least six people are dead and several others missing after a powerful typhoon swept across South Korea.

A search-and-rescue official and a student are reported among the dead.

Typhoon Meari skirted the west coast of the country Sunday, forcing the cancelation of dozens of domestic flights, knocking out power and flooding farmland. Officials say no international flights were affected.

The same storm forced evacuations and disrupted maritime operations off the eastern coast of China.

Meari also caused massive flooding in the Philippines, where at least 15 people were reported missing.

The storm is expected to hit North Korea Monday.
