US Stocks Close Higher, Dow Back Over 12,000

U.S. stock market indexes were higher at closing Monday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced nine-tenths of one percent , closing above 12,000 points once again at 12,044.

The S&P 500 also climbed nine-tenths of a percent to end the day at 1,280.

The Nasdaq Composite Index rose 1.3 percent to 2,688.

European stock markets were mixed at the close of trading. London's Financial Times 100 index gained four-tenths of a percent to end at 5,722. The CAC-40 in Paris moved up three-tenths of a percent to finish at 3,797, while the DAX index in Frankfurt fell two-tenths of a percent to hit 7,108.

Earlier in Asia, Tokyo's Nikkei index dropped one percent to 9,578. Hong Kong's Hang Seng index fell six-tenths of a percent to end at 22,042.

Gold closed at $1,496 per ounce, down from $1,500.50 on Friday.

The dollar was higher against the yen but lost value compared to the euro.
