Asian stock markets closed higher Tuesday.

Tokyo's Nikkei index gained nearly three-quarters of one percent to finish at 9,649.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng index rose nearly one-tenth of one percent to finish the day's trading at 22,062.

Share prices were also higher in Manila, Shanghai, Sydney, Taipei and Wellington.

In currency trading, the dollar was selling at 80.80, a loss of nearly one yen from Monday.
