Yemen says it welcomes a United Nations mission set to arrive Tuesday to investigate human rights issues in the country following months of anti-government protests.

The state news agency says Yemen's Human Rights Ministry will provide whatever help is necessary as mission members meet with government officials and other political figures.

The United Nations said Friday its three-member delegation will spend 10 days in Yemen on a fact-finding mission, which will also include meetings with rights activists, alleged victims of human rights violations and visits to medical and detention centers.

The U.N. Security Council has expressed “grave concern” about the deteriorating situation in Yemen.

Since January, thousands of people across the country have been calling for an end to President Ali Abdullah Saleh's autocratic rule. Many of the protests have turned violent, with security forces killing at least 200 people.

Mr. Saleh is recovering in Saudi Arabia from injuries sustained in a recent bomb attack on the presidential compound, as various factions, including Islamist militants, vie for power throughout the country.
