Candidates in Thailand are holding their final rallies Friday, ahead of a general election on Sunday.

Opinion polls put opposition leader Yinluck Shinawatra, younger sister of ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, ahead of incumbent Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva. But that is no guarantee that Yinluck will win a majority in parliament.

Critics say Thaksin Shinawatra, living in exile in Dubai, will use his sister as a front for his populist programs and will try to return to Thailand if is sister wins and grants him an amnesty from a six-year prison term for a corruption conviction.

Thailand has been deeply divided since Thaksin Shinawatra was ousted by the military in a 2006 bloodless coup. The elections will be the first since more than 90 people died during anti-government protests by his supporters last year.
