European Stocks Lower in Midday Trading

European stock prices are mixed in midday trading Tuesday.

London's Financial Times index is up nearly one-quarter of one percent. The CAC-40 in Paris is down more than one-quarter of one percent, and trading on the DAX index in Frankfurt is up one-quarter of one percent.

In New York, the S&P futures contract is unchanged from last week.

Tokyo's Nikkei index gained a fraction of one percent to finish at 9,972.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng index lost one-tenth of one percent to finish the day's trading at 22,748.

Gold is trading at $1,502.39 an ounce.

The dollar is trading higher against other major currencies.
