A jury in Florida has found a 25-year-old woman not guilty of killing her 2-year-old daughter, in one of the most sensational murder cases in recent U.S. history.

The jury Tuesday found Casey Anthony not guilty of first degree murder, child abuse and aggravated assault of a child in the 2008 death of her daughter Caylee. However, it found her guilty of four counts of providing false information to law enforcement officers who investigated the case.

If convicted of first-degree murder, Anthony could have faced the death penalty. Her sentencing on the lesser charges is set for Thursday.

This case received intense coverage by U.S. news outlets, as prosecution and defense presented competing theories about the death of Caylee, who disappeared in June 2008. Anthony did not report her daughter's disappearance until a month later.

While the prosecution alleged that Anthony purposely killed her daughter, the defense said the child accidentally drowned in the family pool. The girl's remains were found in some woods in December 2008. The exact cause of death was never determined.
