European Stocks Higher in Midday Trading

European stock prices are higher in midday trading Thursday.

London's Financial Times index, the CAC-40 in Paris and the DAX index in Frankfurt are all up about four-tenths of one percent.

In New York, the S&P futures contract is up five points, indicating a higher opening.

Tokyo's Nikkei index lost one-tenth of one percent to finish at 10,071.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng index rose less than one-tenth of one percent to finish the day's trading at 22,530.

Gold is trading at $1,526.30 an ounce.

The dollar is trading lower against other major currencies.
