Russian officials say a Russian man has been sentenced to death in China for drug trafficking.

A Russian embassy spokesman in China says the man was trying to smuggle nearly three kilograms of heroin when he was arrested at Urumqui Airport in northern China last year.

He was tried and convicted last November.

The Itar Tass news agency says the man is the sixth Russian sentenced to death in a drug case in China.
