Asia Markets Close Mostly Higher

Major Asian stock markets closed mostly higher Friday.

Tokyo's Nikkei index gained close to three-quarters of one percent to finish at 10,138.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng index soared nearly one percent to finish the day's trading at 22,726.

Share prices were higher in Bangkok, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Shanghai, Singapore, Sydney and Taipei, but lower in Mumbai, Seoul and Wellington.

In currency trading, the dollar was selling at 81.39, a gain of more than one-tenth of a yen from Thursday.

Gold is trading at $1,528.50 an ounce.
