Three Indian athletes have tested positive for banned substances.

The director-general of India's National Anti-Doping Agency said Friday that Sini Jose, Jauna Murmu and Tiana Mary Thomas will appear before a disciplinary panel after results from a second test or “B samples” tested positive.

Jose, Murmu and Mary are all 400-meter runners and are among eight Indian athletes who have failed drug tests in recent days.

Jose was part of a relay team that won gold medals at last year's Commonwealth Games in New Delhi and Asian Games in Guangzhou, China. Two others on the team, Mandeep Kaur and Ashwini Akkunji, have also tested positive for banned substances.

The athletes have all said they are innocent and blamed contaminated food supplements for the test results.

Indian Sports Minister Ajay Macken fired the coach of the 400-meter runners, Ukrainian Yuri Ogorodnik, earlier this week.

The sports ministry has also appointed a former judge to head an inquiry into the doping scandal.
